A happy mix of shopping and sight-seeing

Nice city centre is between Gare de Nice-Ville, the Promenade des Anglais and Old Town (“Vieille Ville” or "Vieux Nice" to the locals). There are a large number of shops and department stores - notably along Avenue Jean-Médecin, starting at Place Masséna - but also museums and various historical monuments. If you want to go shopping, you may be interested to know that the Nicetoile shopping centre is opposite Rue Jean-Médecin, so it’s very easy to get to from Place Masséna or Nice-Ville train station.

Another option is to explore some of Nice’s religious monuments: such as the Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Basilica, the Synagogue or the Russian Church of St. Nicholas and St. Alexandra. You could decide to go to the Théâtre de la Photographie et des Images or the Théâtre de la Cité to enjoy one of their many shows.

To the south of the city centre stretches the Albert 1er Garden (just north of the Promenade des Anglais), where you can take a break with a peaceful walk. It is also the venue for some large events, such as the Nice Jazz Festival, held every year in August. It would be just as fun if you chose to visit Vieille Ville, below the Colline du Château, its Cathedral (Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate) or the Nice Côte d'Azur Opera House.
